Bars and Clubs
The bar and club scene in Winston is changing all the time. There are new things opening up all the time. A list of some of the places Wake med students frequent is below.
Bars
Bull's Tavern: Nice place with a decent amount of seating indoors and a covered area outdoors. Often has live music on the weekends. 408 W. 4th St.
Burke Street: 1110 Burke St. Bar with pool tables and a nice patio out back. Loud and crowded but the chairs are sturdy for dancing on…
Diamondback Grill: Good place to eat and drink if you can find it. It is located in the middle of a neighborhood. Clientele is college grad and young professional as well as some Wake students. It is the only place in town where you can sit on tree stumps. Located in College Village off of Robinhood Road. (on Avalon Dr.)
The Garage. 110 W 7th St. Live music and open mic night on some nights of the week.
Gatsby’s: 1157 Burke St. Need a membership or to be a guest of a member.
Finnigan’s Wake. 620 North Trade St. A popular Irish pub with good beer and drink selections and a small patio out back.
First Street Draught House: A very good selection of 15 beers on tap and food that is much better than your typical bar munchies. A big go-to post-test since it's a five minute walk from the med school.
Foothills: Local brewery with a good selection of homemade brews. They have Trivia on Tuesday and Thursday nights starting at 9:00. They also have some good fish and chips. Located on 4th street downtown.
Fox & the Hound: Extensive selection of 36 beers on tap and 100 bottles, but you pay for what you get – Expensive…countless TV's, pool tables. Thruway Shopping Center facing Knollwood.
Old Staley’s: A new resturant and bar with good drink specials and is located right across from Reynolda Village near Wake Forest.Trivia on Wednesdays and Karaoke on Mondays. 2000 Reynolda Road. 336.306.9025.
Old Winston Social Club: 1131 Burke Street. Has a stage with Live music and nice couches and unique bar games. Great drinks. Call 723-0060
Recreation Billiards: Pool tables, darts, and foosball with a second bar downstairs. 412 W. 4th St.
Single Brothers: A cozy hole in the wall bar that makes some good drinks. You can find it right across from Finnegans Wake. If you're looking for a "hipster bar" this is it. 627 N. Trade St.
Sixth and Vine: A nice wine bar on the corner of 6th and Pine downtown. You can buy wine by the glass or a bottle at cost. Good selection, comfy couches, great food! The wine bar is also a great spot to watch outdoor bands play in the summer. A nice patio out back as well.
TATE'S CRAFT COCKTAILS: A great bar downtown that is a hangout for young professionals and grad students. They have a good beer selection and hand make a wide variety of specialty cocktails. 279 W. Fourth St Phone: 692-9540
West End Tap Room: Close to school, there is a deck, only beer and wine. 473 West End Blvd (Across from Hanes Park).

Ziggy’s: A mainstay for concerts in Winston Salem for years is returning to downtown after moving from its location near the Groves Stadium. Check http://www.ziggyrock.net/ for the calendar of shows. 821 N. Trade Street

***** During Spring and Summer, be sure to check out Thursday night “Alive After Five” Concerts Downtown and Friday night Bellsouth Jazz and Blues Series also downtown. Some weekends bring other weekend street concerts that are vary from year to year. A unique concert weekend is the “Heavy Rebel Weekender,” an annual concert downtown that brings 40+ metal bands to Winston along with devoted fan bases.
